5744 powder in Marlin 444 ammunition !! Posted Monday, November 4, 2002 by accurate
Another 5744 success story :

I would like to thank you for producing 5744. Recently I purchased a Marlin 444, being disabled, I really thought after firing the weapon that it would just be a wall hanger in my collection. A friend gave me some of your 5744 powder to try .....WOW !! lighter recoil without the loss of accuracy. I really thank you for that . Since then I was compelled to try your #5 in my .45 caliber Ruger Bisley. Well, the target told the story on that to. Groups under 2 inch at 100 yards.... all day long.

Just wanted to say ... thanks for being there to produce such a wonderful product.

MagPro and the Antelope Posted Tuesday, October 15, 2002 by accurate
Bobby,

Attached is a clear testament to MagPro! This is a Pronghorn Antelope that I shot in New Mexico in Sept this year. This shot was 352 yards and it was as clean of kill as possible.

I absolutely love the MagPro powder for the 7mm Rem Ultra Mag! I had tried both 3100 and 8700 but the recoil was almost unbearable. Switching to MagPro made all the difference in the world. I practiced quite a bit before the trip and my success was solely due to being able to fire multiple rounds without becoming worn out from the recoil. It's possible to shoot 20-30 rounds of the 7mm RUM during one practice session without a problem.

I used MagPro at the start charge for the 7mm Rem Ultra Mag, using a Hornady 139gr BTSP Interlock bullet with a Rem 9 1/2 Mag primer. I'm not a bench rest shooter, but I can make groups of 2 inches at 200 yards consistently.

I can't wait to try the same load out on the Tennessee whitetail deer this coming fall. Hopefully more pictures will follow!

Thanks for all of your and Johan's help in finding an outstanding round to load!!!!!

#2 Powder Posted Tuesday, October 15, 2002 by accurate
Dear Accurate Arms,

I just purchased your #2 powder for my handgun loads. Your powder is far superior to the brands I have used in the past. Accurate #2 will be my powder of choice for a long time. Keep up the good work !

accuracy Posted Wednesday, August 28, 2002 by accurate
Unfortunately we refrain from providing/predicting the accuracy. I know some people, and institutions, recommend so-called "accurate loads" and combinations. This practice is actually not very well founded or scientific because, the assumption is made that all systems and conditions are equal. I have prepared a standard notice to clarify some of the basic fundamental truths, about this very complicated, and interesting subject.

Accuracy is totally dependant on the specific combination. It is therefore impossible to, "theoretically" predict the result. The dispersion of the bullet is determined by the stability of the launch platform/system, which of course includes the shooter. This stability is controlled, and determined, by a complex interaction of the different components. This controls the launch impulse, and performance level (velocity and pressure). The dynamic characteristics of this impulse are very specific to a certain combination. This combination of primer, cartridge-case, powder, projectile/bullet and internal chamber/barrel dimensions will deliver a particular pressure impulse.
How the launch platform/Rifle reacts to this impulse, determines the stability, and as a result the accuracy/dispersion. This specific reaction of the launch platform can be described the "dynamic finger print" of the system. That's why an "accurate load", can only be achieved through incremental adjustments, and or variations of these different components and parameters. The only way to properly do this, is to always start at the minimum or start load, and work up towards the maximum suggested load, with the components at one's disposal. If the desired accuracy is not achieved, the second phase will be to adjust or change the components, i.e. primer, case, case condition, projectile/bullet or the type of powder altogether. The important thing to remember is, to change/vary only one parameter/component at a time.

Nosler boat tail flat point Posted Wednesday, August 28, 2002 by accurate
Just thought I would drop you folks a quick email. My buddy and I decided to hunt with our lever action rifles this year instead of the usual long range boomers. We had harvested our bucks on opening day and only needed to take two does to fill our remaining tags. I used 37.5 grains of XMR 4064 behind a 120 Nosler boat tail flat point in a 7-30 Waters Win 94. Muzzle velocity of 2725 over my chronograph. As we were leaving for the morning I spotted two does about 350 yards away. I asked my buddy if he wanted to try a sneak on them. To make a long story just a little shorter he was able to rest my gun on my backpack and shot the doe at 275 official yards. The doe ran 20 yards and died. What makes it more of an incredible shot is that both our guns have Williams peep sights, no scopes on this hunt. My gun was sighted for 1 inch high at a 100 yards. The bullet was recovered in the opposite shoulder just under the skin. Double lung shot. My buddy was so impressed with your powder he plans to use it in his 7-30 Waters T/C Cont. Pistol. I already have and with great success also. Keep up the great powder making. Sincerely yours Dave Lawrence Columbus, NE

5744 Powder of Choice!!! Posted Monday, March 1, 2004 by accurate
I have been shooting and hunting with two Savage smokeless muzzleloaders, a 10ML (the original model) and a 10ML-II for a little over three years.  I tried several different powders in these rifles in the process of developing a target and hunting load and finally settled on Accurate Arms 5744 for both target shooting and varmint hunting.  If New Mexico ever changes the state game laws to allow the use of smokeless powder during big game muzzle loading seasons, 5744 will be my powder of choice for both deer and elk as well.

I have found that I can obtain excellent accuracy over a wide variety of powder charges ranging from less than 30 grains to well over 50 grains with any bullet of .451 diameter or larger in an MMP or Hornady HP sabot or (believe it or not) a round Spherical of .457 diameter in the same kind of sabot.  Using nothing more elaborate than a rolled up quilt in an old duffel bag for a rest on a concrete table at our local, rather primitive, shooting range I can consistently shoot sub one-and a-half inch groups at a hundred yards with 45 grains of 5744 and an MMP sabot behind either a .452 Hornady, 250 gr. XTP or a .453 SST bullet.  It seems to be an extremely easy powder to ignite, and it appears that minor variations in the amount of powder have minimal effect on accuracy.  This last feature is especially important to me because, while I weigh my charges when doing serous paper punching, when plinking and hunting for jackrabbits and coyotes (this is where the 145 grain .457 round balls come into play) I prefer to measure my changes in the field in an ordinary black powder measure recalibrated for 5744.

Accurate Arms 5744 Powder and Savage ML rifles seem to be made for each other and I expect to be using both of them for many years to come.  Sincerely, Mel Taylor.
